2011 Program Statistics:
How Adopt-A-Highway Volunteers Are Making A Difference In Delaware

All program statistics are for the year ending 2011

  • Overall there are 849 groups participating in the program
    • 272 are from New Castle County
    • 259 are from Kent County
    • 318 are from Sussex County
  • In 2011, DelDOT added 75 new volunteer groups to it's litter-fighting team
  • May is the most popular month for doing cleanups
  • Sussex County has the most new volunteers, as they submitted the most new applications (39) for 2011
  • Volunteers in New Castle County collected the most bags of trash (1971 bags in 2011)
  • Volunteers in Sussex County also did the most cleanups, with 273 cleanups being conducted in 2011
  • Volunteers in Sussex County also spent the most time doing the cleanups, with a total of 740 hours being devoted to litter removal
  • Volunteers in Sussex County have the most people participating in cleanups, with 1676 people doing cleanups
