Archaeology Month 2007
|
May is Archaeology Month
DelDOT is pleased to have some very exciting finds to share and we've made it easier to directly access the archaeology portion of our website. Just visit
archaeology.deldot.gov.
Prior to new roadway projects entering the construction phase, DelDOT undertakes a project for archaeological finds. We
can learn valuable lessons by finding out how early inhabitants lived, where they lived, what they used for tools,
and more.

"Digging for Old Delaware"
explores life in our area as early as the 1700's. See what archaeologists do and what we learn from their findings and
conclusions.
Have you heard the word "archaeobotany"? Do you know what it means? It is the study of plant remains from archaeological
sites. Scientists analyze the remains to determine what type of plants may have grown in the past. This information
provides more insight into the lives of Delaware's inhabitants, by determining what plants they may have eaten, used for
medicinal purposes, as well as what the landscape looked like in the past. We have recently published one such study report about
Archaeobotany of Delaware.
