Lighthouse Road Bridge (BR 3-925) North of Slaughter Beach

Project Limits:

200 feet northeast and southwest of bridge

Project Need

The existing timber structure is deteriorated and has many decayed, loose, weathered, and split members. It is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. The bridge currently ranks 32nd out of 1,399 on the Department's 2009 bridge deficiency list (via the bridge management program).

Project Overview:

This project will replace the existing timber structure with a timber deck on concrete stub abutments on piles. Additional work will include placing riprap in channel for scour protection, reconstructing roadway approaches, and placing guardrail as required. This bridge provides the only access to several homes and businesses on a dead end road, so at least one lane of traffic must be maintained during construction.

Current Project Schedule:

Design Phase:

Design work to be completed in December, 2011.

Construction Phase:

Construction to be completed in Fall, 2012.
